Why We Like the Atomic Backland Carbon UL Alpine Touring Boots

When it comes to fast and light ski touring performance, the Atomic Backland Carbon UL Alpine Touring Boots pack a punch well above their weight class. Ultra-light carbon cuff materials, friction-free pivots, and a nearly unlimited range of rotational movement in walk mode make these some of the fastest touring boots on the market.

Skiers putting together massive days in the backcountry need boots that perform well on the skin track, as well as reliability and support for steep, technical descents. With a snug-fitting 98mm last, and heat-moldable Memory Fit liner, responsiveness and fit are second to none. 74 degrees of cuff rotation creates a natural, efficient stride, and outstanding climbing performance. A 100 flex rating is enough power to drive a slightly heavier or wider ski if conditions dictate. Tipping the scales at just 1021g (26.5), the Bakland Carbon UL includes a lot of amazing features in a featherweight yet powerful package.

Staff Review- Mike Poleto

This is my favorite ski boot of all time. I am absolutely blown away at the weight/performance ratio and the range of motion for walking. The Boa works great for simplicity and the new style buckle for 2022 is a nice small upgrade. Also- don't forget about memory fit- while this boot has a 98mm last, you can definitely make it work if you have an average foot or even a wider-than-average foot. Memory fit enables us to cook the shell in the oven and really make the boot fit a variety of fit.

Summary- whether you're touring resort laps, skiing gnarly terrain, going on an expdition, or anything else- I use this boot 95% of my days ski touring in the winter for almost anything across multiple setups.
