Cripple Creek teamed up with Aspen Expeditions to offer an affordable day of guided skiing to help hone your backcountry skills.

Unlike most countries in the world, the United States does not require mountain guides to obtain certifications to take guests into the mountains. Instead, all they need is some first aid training and the relevant permits so they can operate as a commercial business. We believe that guiding certifications should be an industry standard. Wouldn't you go to a Board Certified Physician for any medical needs?

When hiring a guide, you should be looking for either an IFMGA/UIAGM (International) or AMGA (American) Certified Guide. The IFMGA certification can be thought of as the ‘PH.D’ of guiding. Those who have earned this distinction have expertise in choosing an objective that corresponds to the current conditions, guests' ability, and is off the well trod skin track. Mountain guides not only deliver the goods in the hills, but they keep you safe with extensive training in weather forecasting, avalanche education and wilderness medicine.

Join Cripple Creek and Aspen Expeditions this winter for our 'Intro to Ski-Touring' Course!

For the 2019/20 season, Cripple Creek is teaming up with Aspen Expeditions to offer an ‘Intro to Ski Touring’ class. This guided half day experience will be offered the second Tuesday of every month and is designed to help skiers bridge the gap from resort skiing to safe and fun backcountry travel. The tour will move slowly through un-groomed backcountry terrain while discussing fundamental concepts about gear and safely navigating terrain. Since their inception in 1977, Aspen Expeditions has been recognized as one of the most accredited guiding operations in the company. If you’re looking to get into the sport, then this is an incredible opportunity to get out into the backcountry with an accredited guide.
