Freedom SL: Swapping In The New Ski Walk Mode

Posted on October 07 2013

For some of the first Scarpa Freedom SL's to come off the press they were in need of an updated walk mode piece.  This is a really simple procedure and below are the steps to git'r done.

1. Flip the boots into walk mode     2. Pull out the liners.

3. Take an allen key and remove the entire rear walk mode assembly.

4. Take a tap or a punch and back out the pin that holds the lower catch in the boot. This will take some force. Give it a couple of your manliest "whaps" to get it started and it will then come easily the rest of the way out. NOTE: The new and old catches look very similar so be sure you have them properly labeled.

5. Put the new catch in the boot.  This is easiest to do if you slide the catch in on the inside of the boot.  Tap the pin back through the boot with punch and hammer.  Put the ski/walk mode back on the boot. Be sure to put some Locktite on the allen screws before you put them back in.

6. Reward your hard work.
