La Sportiva Spectre Review

Posted on October 08 2013

When you are used to only backcountry skiing it is hard to imagine waiting on a 15 minute lift line on the front side of Winter Park ski resort. But this is exactly where I found myself last year at the SIA on snow demo. Lucky for me the second booth I cam to was La Sportiva and I through on a pair of Spectres and absconded with them for the day.

La Sportiva Spectre Ski Touring Boot Review

The first thing I notice was how comfortable the liner was and how even with my wide feet they were ready to ski right of the box. I have been excited that La Sportiva is developing boots shaped like the human foot instead of blocks of plastic. The boot is sleek with well thought out buckles high on the boot out of the way or rocks and scree and a flex zone in the tongue (like my spitfires) that allows you cuff articulation even with the buckles locked down.

I skied them with a short pair of La Sportiva GTR the type of fast and light ski I love ripping quick turns on, but I also skied them with a long pair of 188 cm La Sportiva Mega Lo5, a ski with an all poplar core that really wants to fly.  The Spectre handled both nicely and I would have to give it the edge over my old Maestrale's for both performance and comfort. I would put it on the very arbitrary flex index at a 110. Definitely the most impressive feature is its $599 price showing you don't always have to pay top dollar for innovation.

For the nitty gritty specs I helped Lou from Wild Snow detail the Spectres here.
