Important Ski Mountaineering Tool

The RAD line is a very helpful tool to mitigate risk and manage terrain in a ski mountaineering setting. It handles better than other hyperstatic cord equivalents (BD 6mm tagline or the Mammut Glacier cord). It's a really helpful tool in the 30m length for a self-belay to cut cornices, rappel into a ski line, do a belayed ski cut, or travel on a glacier. It's hyperstatic, so it does not absorb any force imparted by dynamic falls. I keep this on the bottom of my pack with a lightweight pear shaped locker and 120 cm sling, then maybe some extra 6mm cord, nuts and pins if I know I'll be building anchors for rappels. Even better is that this provides a great pairing with a rescue sled to help haul someone out of a really bad situation. Generally, the RAD line is so light that it helps eliminate the excuses that I'll make to not bring a piece of equipment to improve the safety of a technical mission. Get one, it's worth it.
