Only one thing could make the Wailer 99 Alchemist better. And that's a maroon honeycomb design fading over the classic orange. And a gray wailer lion on the tail. Agreed? Apparently DPS thought so. Sarcasm aside, its a pretty sweet limited addition topsheet on a really sweet pair of shred sticks.

The right width for the skin track, the right shape for the pow. The 99 takes it's rockered profile from the cult classic 112 but in a more manageable width for both resort ripping and ski touring. This mid fat width is particularly noticeable on the skin track as you get less skin drag friction, and aren't the widest ski on the drag, dragging against the walls. You also get a quicker ski edge to edge when ripping the groomer back to the lift after shredding the resort powder.

The perfect improvement for this shape is the new Alchemist construction. DPS sought to improve performance in variable conditions, and successfully addressed it in two distinct ways. First, the DPS classic full pre preg carbon wrap is now vibration tuned within the carbon layup. Less complicated than it sounds really, flax is added to dumb down vibration which then makes the ski more damp and forgiving without sacrificing pop. Secondly, DPS' Alchemist construction improves the feel and flex of the center of the ski. The mounting area stays at full thickness, while the rest of the center of the ski is slightly thinner. This creates a more even and proper flex around the boot.

The combination of shape and construction of the Wailer 99 Alchemist lead to one of the most versatile and playful skis ever designed. Pick up the 99 as a one ski quiver for both resort and backcountry skiing.
