The Backland UL 65 is a staple in the race world. It is one of the lightest and most durable race ski's on the market and has been used in countless podium finishes. Atomic did not go with a complete overhaul on the ski, because it is hard to adjust an already perfect ski, but they did make some minor adjustments to make an already great ski even better. Still under 700 grams and a potential to replace any existing race ski you have had in the past
For starters the Backland UL 65 has been increased to maintain higher speeds with more control and stability, while still retaining an easy and maneuverable ski on the approach. while the increase in a turn radius can create a straight line effect, Atomic added a slight camber in the ski construction. Atomic further improved the UL 65 and added the HRZN tech tip that is found on most freeride skis from Atomic. This creates primo contact while gliding through soft snow without adding any mass to the ski's construction. Lastly, Atomic added a tapered tail to help with transitions when packing the skins into a pack loop and improve the ski from the release from turns. You may want to just try all these features out for yourself, they will point you in the right direction for both a podium finish and one heck of a good time.
