Why We Like the Atomic Backland 65 UL Alpine Touring Skis

The Atomic Backland 65 UL Alpine Touring Ski is Atomic's flagship skimo race machine. Ultra-light, and packed with features that will pay dividends on race day, the Backland 65 is a ski that will appear on podiums across multiple Skimo disciplines.

Developed in close cooperation with Atomic’s World Cup ski mountaineering athletes, Backland 65 UL is the ultimate speed machine. Flying uphill and charging downhill, its ultralight construction is designed to give you a competitive advantage. An ultralight Caruba and Poplar core strikes a perfect balance between weight savings and downhill power. The HRZN Tech tip profile increases the effective surface area of the ski, for easy handling in powder, crud, and chop. Dura Cap construction resists dents and dings, and a World Cup base finish creates amazing glide on sections of the ski not covered by skins. When every second counts, the Atomic Backland 65 UL is the tool for the job.

    Modern Skimo Rocketship

This is a rocketship in the world of 65mm underfoot 'baby skis.' Camber underfoot, but some rocker in the tip to stay on top of crud and pow. Small sidewalls for stability and durability. But don't get confused. These skis, along with all randonee race skis, are not durable. They are trail running shoes, not hiking boots. But if you're choosing between race skis, I would go with these because they ski the best at the same weight as any other competitive race ski.
