The Atomic name in skiing is synonymous with elite ski athletes, speed, precision, and performance. It should come as no surprise then that they have entered into the backcountry market with solid products that are quickly becoming shop favorites. The Backland Ultralight 78s are a long distance ski tourer or ski mountaineers dream ski. It is the lightest in the Atomic Adventure Touring series weighing 980 g in the 164 cm length allowing you to get to the peak in top times when speed is a necessity. The Karuba and poplar cores allow for the ski to remain ultralight while retaining critical strength and rigidity which is reinforced with carbon laminates. Knowing that going up is only half the battle, and often the easiest part, the crafters at Atomic engineered this ski with the downhill in mind. The 78 mm waist gives the ski mobility and nimbleness while the All Mountain Rocker adds some float and pop in soft snow and the Step Down Sidewall ensures control, edge grip, and dampness on even the iciest downhills. So when you are planning your next mission to that mountain everyone thinks is too far away, grab these Atomic Ultralights and laugh all the way down your well earned first tracks.

Atomic Backland 78UL Alpine Touring Ski
These skinny skis were purchased for the GT as well as fitness skiing uphill. They are 5.6lbs with the Black Diamond Helio 145’s that I have mounted. They ski nicely uphill and are super fun downhill (in bounds). Off piste they are a little unruly, but I expect spring conditions to be a whole different story.
