As I look around at my friends and partners, the list of those folks who are riding "naked" that is, without an avalanche airbag, slims every year. These bags are now mandatory gear for my crew. Recognizing that this is essential kit, BCA has been striving for years to make their bags effective and economical. The Float 32 is the perfect pack to cover all of your backcountry needs. The pack is divided into two compartments, a wet gear section and the main compartment. Their idea is that your emergency equipment will be in the wet gear, outlined in a red zipper, while your other items can be stored high and dry in the main compartment- because no one likes a soggy sandwich or a soaked layer. The pack also comes stocked with a bunch of other user driven innovations. For example, both shoulder sleeves have zippers allowing for optimal trigger set up. The other sleeve can also be fully integrated with a BCA two way link radio or a water valve. The hip belt and torso can be adjusted based on your body size, and this pack is large enough to accommodate all of your backcountry gear, including ice ax carry systems, (internal or external depending on piolet or technical ice tool) and a diagonal ski carry system and vertical snowboard carry system. The leg strap is sewn in and has its own storage pocket. This is a well thought out pack that adds an invaluable tool to keeping you safe in the backcountry. Don't forget that being safe starts with good decision making and that these packs are a last resort.
