The Black Crows Orb Freebird is a springtime beast, with enough width and rocker for the pow days. We also love this ski, paired with a really lightweight boot, for a stable and solid light mountaineering setup. Think a race binding and Scarpa Alien RS boot- hint, hint.
You'll love the the incredible dampness to lightness ratio that the French Crows' where able to figure out with the Orb, and other Freebird skis. The intention was to make a ski that skis well first and foremost, and then make it light on the skin approach or on your back when the climbing gets serious. Black Crows uses a Paulownia wood core for the Orb's lightness. The pop and stiffness without chatter is achieved with the combination of carbon and fiberglass- in both biaxial and triaxial weaves. This gives the ski a ton of lateral stiffness, while maintaining a subtle touch as the ski flexes. When you're in the terrain that the Orb was designed for (steep and techy) limited chatter and a solid yet nimble touch throughout the turn is paramount.
Whether ripping brainless corn laps smiling while ear to ear, or getting into the gnar, the Black Crows Orb Freebird is an awesome choice for descent oriented skiers who prefer a less-than-bro width.
