The S1 Carbon has changed the idea of Carbon and given it a major overhaul. Carbon has always been the light and fast go to material for the touring world. However, with Carbon comes problems, and Scott dug deep to figure out how to perfectly integrate Carbon into a ski boot and make it last.
The S1 Carbon uses a Grilamid and Carbon fiber composite mixture to allow for a stiffer and lighter boot all in one. With Grilamid you can rely on the 130 flex to hold up on multiple tours and not lose it's shape and stiffness. And with the integrated Carbon composite you can see a difference in the weight. Usually a boot has separate carbon components that help cut weight in areas that don't feel the demanding force of aggressive turns or long tours. The S1 has been able to apply Carbon to almost all aspects of the boot, cutting weight were it is usually not seen in most boots.
In addition, the S1 has the all new forward ski/walk mechanism. Scott saw that with a rear ski/walk mech, you run in to the problem of losing your range of motion while touring by having this bulky devise located on the heel. The simple one buckle transition makes touring and transitioning a breeze.
Now, Everyone wants there boot to last forever, who doesn't, the life span of a ski boot can break down after a couple hundred tour days, but we all want a boot to last longer than that. Scott has accomplished what we all needed in a boot, completely interchangeable components. The S1 has the ability to come back to life time and time again and with very little to no effort, making this boot a one of a kind.
