Join us to learn technique and training tips to become more efficient in your next skimo race or ski touring objective.
It has long been the goal of Cripple Creek Backcountry to increase the fun and safety of ski touring for our customers and friends. Through our partnership with Sunlight Resort we have been offered a unique opportunity for an amazing training facility with hundreds of acres of hike to only terrain with a slope aspect friendly for learning and teaching.
We are also excited to announce we will be teaming with National Skimo Team coachJoe Howdyshell and the Summit Endurance Academy. Other coaches include some of top athletes of this quickly growing sport, including US National Skimo athletes and long time local racers and trainers, but with a Cripple Creek twist to make it approachable and fun for all levels.
This camp is most focused on gaining efficiency in the mountains. Whether for you favorite backcountry tour, preparation for bigger ski missions or getting ready for an upcoming race, there are always skills and equipment to improve upon.
Friday January 5th 6pm: We will have a happy hour (or 2) to meet the coaches and other participants. If you are demoing gear for the weekend this will be the time to get setup and learn what it takes to get into the sport. If you are coming with your own setup we will be showing you tips and tricks to maintain it and keep it in top form for the year ahead. Drinks and dinner included.
Saturday 9am: We will meet in the Sunlight Parking lot to tour out into the Babish Gulch and William Peaks zones. This will be the day focused on skill building in the form of a beautiful backcountry tour that gets you out and away from the lifts and set runs and follows the course of the upcoming Heathen Challenge. We will be focusing on proper skinning technique, technical kick turns, boot packing and transitions all designed to increase your efficiency in the mountains.
Sunday 9am: We will meet in the parking lot again for an entirely new tour focused on how to keep yourself growing as a ski tourer or ski mountaineering racer. Lead by coach Howdyshell. we will demonstrate work outs and drills that will bring you to your skinning best.
