Why We Like the Salomon Mtn Summit 12 Alpine Touring Binding

The Salomon MTN Summit 12 Alpine Touring Binding is designed for skiers looking for a fully-featured lightweight backcountry touring binding that won't sap all of their energy on the ascent. An evolution of its predecessor, the Cripple Creek staff favorite MTN Pure, the MTN Summit 12 seeks to fill the gap between the ruggedly simplistic lightweight Pure and the revolutionary crossover touring binding, the Salomon Shift. The addition of 17mm of elastic heel travel seeks to provide a smoother ride downhill and combat the potential for pre-releases in cases of large impacts. While the vertical release value remains fixed by a u-spring, a new lateral release adjustment allows skiers of a wide range of sizes and ability levels to dial in their exact value from 6 to 12.

Borrowing elements from the MTN Pure, the MTN Summit 12 provides an extremely user-friendly experience on the uphill. Constructed from a combination of high-strength aluminum and fiberglass-infused plastic, the MTN Summit 12 weighs in at a svelte 395g with the brake. Operating independently of the heel rotation, the climbing risers are fixed in place, meaning if skiers are not looking to access the flat touring mode, transitions can be performed simply by flipping the first riser over the U-spring. The brake is operated with the movement of a single lever, and can also be removed to run a leash configuration. The integrated crampon hook is compatible with Salomon/Atomic/Plum ski crampons and offers the ability to easily drop in the crampon without removing your skis.
