The Float 42 is BCA's largest airbag and was conceived with the patroller, guides, and snow professional in mind. Its large size means that not only can you haul your usual backcountry ski gear like shovel, probe, first aid kit, radio, water and food etc., but there is plenty of room left for extra items like glacier gear, snow science equipment, or overnight supplies. The airbag system is removable, making this a versatile bag meant for multi-day excursions. Like the other Float packs, the 42 has the mud room compartment for wet gear and a main compartment as well as dual zipper sleeves over each shoulder optimizing trigger location. It has the now standard diagonal ski carry‚ (to keep the skis out of the way of a deployed bag should you deploy while climbing) and the sewn in leg strap. Snowboarders will need to get the additional BCA snowboard carry adapter to carry their board horizontally. The helmet carry is a mesh bag that comes out of a tiny pocket on the back of the pack and closes down on four connector points.
This pack comes with additional features reflecting its design for long ski missions. It has daisy chains sewn in to the back of the pack providing extra clip on points as well as hip belt pockets for easy to grab food or a camera. It has sleeves for ice tools on the back and clips on the wet compartment zipper allowing you to carry your shovel assembled if you choose to do so. Additionally, this pack has load lifters over the shoulders to cinch up the additional weight. This is BCA's do it all pack.
